Immersion

Photography workshops and tours are great for building photography skills and providing access to locations. Immersion is all about individual artistic and creative growth through inspired environments. More specifically, Immersion is the method and approach I use in my work, as well as many other professionals I know. Workshops and photo tours rarely allow this insight due to group size, time or logistics.

Photo Tours are generally location based with scheduled times to shoot. These are great for seeing many places but don’t facilitate the right environment to create your best work. Feedback and instruction are often minimal.

Photography Workshops are great for learning specific skills and providing access to certain locations. Learning quality varies widely in what you get from workshop leaders or companies. Workshops are often limited by group size logistics and keep a fast paced schedule, exhausting you by the end.

IMMERSION is a way for you to receive valuable guidance towards your own artistic vision through critique, idea generation, inspired environments and personalized understanding of your journey.

IMMERSION is for you if you already know how to use your camera and are comfortable with techniques. Immersion is about applying learned knowledge towards developing your own creative voice and vision.

TRANSPORTATION - We will carpool to selected areas or locations where we will be 100% on our own to create, explore and connect. There is no in-the-field instruction, unlike with workshops and tours. This is designed to allow you complete freedom to create without interference.

IMAGE REVIEW - We will hold daily image review sessions where I will facilitate a guided discussion and work 1:1 with you to evaluate your approach. Depending on logistics, this may be at the end of the day or in the morning. The goal is to provide you with inspired, professional guidance so you can create your best work in the field on your own.

SLEEP - Our itinerary is designed with “Slow Photography” in mind where you will not be sleep deprived and exhausted by the end of the week. There are no planned late nights followed by early mornings. Sleep deprivation can ruin creative vision and prevent you from creating your best work, it’s that simple.

LOCATION SELECTION - Our itinerary will remain fluid and flexible to allow the best opportunities for the given conditions. You will gain further insight into my location selection process which is rarely offered in traditional workshops. This is an invaluable skill that’s not possible to learn online or YouTube.

ITINERARY - Throughout 4 full days of shooting, we’ll go for sunrise 2 times and through sunset 1 day. All outings are optional and with carpooling you have the most flexibility to accommodate your personal needs. Our specific itinerary will be discussed on arrival day at our group dinner and I’ll check in with each of you throughout the week.

Each Immersion is different but all have an experience or adventure included. Details are listed with each Immersion below. Lodging, transortation and meals are on your own for every Immersion but recommendations are listed with each. This is designed to allow flexibility in our experience in each location.

One group dinner is included with each Immersion.

You are responsible to arrange your own travel, transportation and meals throughout the Immersion. I will help coordinate carpooling as needed and offer recommendations for food options.

Immersion is designed to create an inspiring environment and offer guidance on your personal photography goals. Immersion is not a workshop with in-the-field instruction, you are on your own to create during our outings. Guidance is provided before and after any field sessions and during image review sessions.

Beginner photographers may not find this suitable for learning effectively. I offer a private 1:1 workshop where I’m able to work with you effectively to learn your cameras operations if needed. An understanding of your camera’s operation will allow you to create with more intention and maximize your time. You must also be able to carry and manage your own photography gear.

Experiences and engagement with the landscape unlock inspiration in unimaginable ways. Immersion is all about helping you find your own creative voice whether for the first time or as a new direction in your journey. If you’re a “pro” or advanced, you’ll likely find the MOST value in an immersion.
